Planning your wedding is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming—especially when it comes to beauty decisions. As a professional bridal makeup artist, I often receive similar questions from brides-to-be. To help make your planning smoother, I’ve compiled the most frequently asked questions about bridal makeup.
Do I really need a makeup trial?
Absolutely! A makeup trial ensures that we are on the same page about your desired look. It also gives you a chance to see how the makeup wears on your skin and make any necessary adjustments before the big day.
Will my makeup last all day?
This is the most asked question I get. The answer is: Yes! As a professional makeup artist, I use high-quality, long-wearing products to ensure your makeup lasts throughout the day and night. Perfect skin prep, setting sprays, primers, and touch-up kits (which I provide in some of my packages) help keep everything flawless.
How long does bridal makeup take?
Bridal makeup typically takes about 60–90 minutes. Makeup for bridesmaids and other members of the bridal party usually takes me about 45 minutes each.
Is tipping required?
For me, my business, tipping is NOT required EVER but is always appreciated! If you’re happy with your makeup artist’s work, a gratuity of 15–20% is a great way to show your appreciation. I do ask that you consider tipping any additional artists I may bring with me to assist!
Should I get my makeup or hair done first?
This often depends on your schedule and stylist, but a common approach is to have hair done first and makeup done afterward. I will always work with your hairstylist to figure out the right order of services for you!
Can I bring my own makeup?
No, I bring everything I need. Because my products are meticulously vetted for longevity and looking good in photographs, I cannot guarantee the same results with any makeup you provide. If you have concerns or allergies to specific ingredients/products, this will need to be disclosed beforehand.
What if I don’t usually wear a lot of makeup?
That’s completely okay! I will work with you to create a natural, enhanced version of your everyday look. If you’re not used to wearing makeup, communicate your preferences during the trial to ensure you feel comfortable and like yourself on your wedding day.
Are false lashes included?
False lashes are included with every application (if desired). They can enhance your eyes and add definition to your look without adding dark contrasting colors. If you’re not comfortable with dramatic lashes, there are natural-looking options that can subtly enhance your eyes without feeling too heavy. I always carry a variety!
What should I do to prep my skin before my wedding day?
Start a good skincare routine months in advance, including cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing. I actually have compiled a guide that is specific to brides and can be downloaded here!
I hope this FAQ guide helps answer your questions about bridal makeup! If you have any additional questions or would like to book your wedding makeup, feel free to reach out—I’d love to be part of your big day!
